How Jofen’s Masterpieces Are Manufactured
This is the red-hot blank, coming directly from the forge. To be processed further, the steel has to be heated to 1000 degrees Celsius (1832 degrees Fahrenheit). When the base frame of the jew’s harp is finished, the filing begins. This production step significantly determines the usability and quality of the instrument. After that, the notch for the tongue is cut out. Precision to a fraction of a millimeter is essential in this stage as well. The tongue is beveled and then inserted into the prepared frame. Now the tongue is struck a few times and beveled again. Then the two prongs are precisely adjusted and aligned with the tongue. This step requires particular experience and sensitivity. This is a perfectly adjusted tongue. This is the finished jew’s harp. Its tongue is bent up. The instrument is ready to be played.
